PewDiePie Ajax AI: frequently asked questions
Straight answers sourced from the official page and reporting listed in ourmethodology. "Ajax" here means PewDiePie's Ajax AI model - not the football club, the JavaScript technique or the cleaner. Status: Not released.
Is PewDiePie's Ajax AI model released?
No. As of our last check on 2026-10-07, the official page (data.pewdiepie.com) still says "Coming soon". There are no official weights, no model card and no license. The official page says it will ship "when it's ready".
When is the Ajax release date?
No date has been announced. A countdown briefly appeared on 2026-10-02 pointing at 2026-10-03, but it was removed the next day and replaced with "when it's ready". We treat the release as paused until the official page changes.
Where is the official Ajax download?
The only official distribution point announced so far is https://data.pewdiepie.com/ - the "Download Ajax here" link in the video description points there. Nothing has been posted yet. Any Hugging Face repo or mirror claiming to be Ajax today is unofficial.
Is Ajax free?
No price has been announced for Ajax. Odysseus, the workspace it is built for, is free and open source under the AGPL-3.0 license.
What is Ajax, exactly?
Per the official page: "Ajax is a fine-tuned Qwen 3.5 9B model, trained for Odysseus to be your always on agent." It is meant to handle daily tasks - search, browsing, email, calendar - privately on your own hardware.
What is Odysseus, and how is it different from Ajax?
Odysseus is PewDiePie's free, self-hosted AI workspace (AGPL-3.0, on GitHub since May 2026). It is the harness - chat, agents, email, calendar, local model workflows. Ajax is the model, the first one trained specifically to run inside Odysseus. Odysseus already exists and can run other local models.
What does "refusal-ablated" mean?
The official page says "Ajax's refusal has been ablated for a freer, less restricted AI experience." In the video, PewDiePie says he removed refusals using the open-source tool Heretic, and that he drew the line at harm to others and self-harm. It means the model is trained to refuse fewer requests than a stock model.
Why did OpenAI ban PewDiePie?
He says OpenAI banned his account twice while he was building Ajax; one OpenAI email shown in the video cites "distillation". He says he then used outputs from an OpenAI model (reported as "GPT-5.6 Sol") to generate training data after his account was restored.
What hardware will Ajax need?
Only estimates exist, based on the 9B base model: roughly 22 GB GPU memory at full precision, ~11 GB at 8-bit (both reported analysis), and our estimate of ~5–6 GB at 4-bit. Released formats (GGUF/AWQ/MLX) and context length are unknown.
Is this site official?
No. ajaxmodel.dev is an independent tracker. It is not affiliated with PewDiePie, Odysseus or Alibaba/Qwen. Status changes here are confirmed by a human before going live.
Is "Ajax" here the football club, the JavaScript technique or the cleaner?
No - this site tracks the Ajax AI model: PewDiePie's fine-tuned local model for his Odysseus workspace. In Greek myth Ajax was Odysseus' rival; PewDiePie joked it is named after the cleaning product.
